What I Wore Sunday With Family Saints

Linking up with Fine Linen and Purple again this Sunday for their What I Wore feature. I'm cheating a little, in that this is what I really wore, but with the Sunday, Cray Cray Sunday we have going on in these parts, I didn't get a picture of myself wearing it, which is just fine since I slept through my alarm and woke up roughly fifteen minutes before I needed to leave for Mass, during which time both kids also woke up simultaneously. Luckily, I'd prepped for a hectic morning and showered last night before bed so I could do a stop, drop and roll out of bed and away to Mass, though I was counting on an hour, not a quarter of that. All that run-on sentence long windedness to say this is what I threw together when I ran upstairs:

Shirt: Resale (Style & Co.)
Skirt: Motherhood Maternity (what? It's comfy!)
Jewelry: Who has time to find jewelry when you wake up that late?!? The fact that I wore heels and not flip flops that were by the door is a miracle in itself! (Nine West from DSW, in case you wondered.)

We did a split Mass today as the Hubs has his orientation for the Catholic Biblical School where he teaches and we are all still under the beautiful weather. Kids stayed home because no matter how cute they are, no one needs to take home their sneezies or their abundant snot. Seriously.

During the recuperation period which involved fasting and praying with Pope Francis yesterday, I decided I would finally update the look of the blog as well. I'd been feeling like the initial makeover was starting to feel very cartoonish for who we are. While we are hilarious, I'm not sure "cartoon" was what I was going for. This design had been rolling around in my head for a while, and yesterday gave me just the right chunk of time to pull it together. There's nothing like a little Lorax, Mulan and Roman Holiday in the morning with the kids to get things done. (Just because I didn't want the blog to feel cartoonish doesn't mean I don't like cartoons!)

Whilst watching Mulan, I also got inspired to talk to the Hubs about picking some family saints for the year. One of the things I love most about our Catholic faith is the communion of saints. It is a comfort and inspiration to know that we are still united with these holy men and women who have gone before us, that we can entrust them with our prayers and study their lives as a model of faithful and intentional discipleship.

We have adopted three family saints for this year at the very least. We haven't decided if these will change with the years, or if we will just add new ones to the rolls. You'll see them highlighted on the sidebar of the blog, as well as more information on why they are our family saints in the About Us. If you do not have a specific saint that you "go-to" more than others, perhaps this is something hyou may want to consider - they are waiting with arms and prayers open for us to ask their help and intercession! If you or your family do have saints who are significant to you, I'd love to hear about it. Leave me a note in the combox - I'd love to learn more about your families and their saints!

  1. Those shoes are gorgeous! And, I love the idea of adopting saints. Our family members all have patron saints, but I need to do something to learn more about the others!

  2. I love your new blog design. Our family has been through lots of job loss and unemployment, so St. Joseph has always been dear to us.

    1. Thanks, Amelia! Sorry to hear of your family's struggles - I can see that St. Joseph would be very close to you all. We will offer up a special prayer through his intercession for you all tonight!

  4. I've just recently realized that I got picked by a saint - Santa Rosa de Lima - and I'm trying to learn how to become more intimately acquainted with her.

  5. I love the redesign of the page . . . but the light teal on dark grey is very hard to read on this screen. Maybe a darker teal over there? (It's fine on the white.) Love you, your hubs, and your littles!!

  6. Those shoes are amazing . . . I want them :) (What? It's your fault you know. I wasn't into shoes at all until you started taking me shoe shopping!)

I love the blog's redesign!! But, just so you know, the light teal on the dark grey is very hard to read on this screen. Maybe a darker teal? (The lt teal is fine on the white.)
