Gettin' Back in the Groove & Some WIWS

I've been so busy trying to get things in order around the Casa that the writing has taken a bit of a back seat to the organizing...and sitting around. Ok, that's not entirely true, but I have been mulling about some changes for the rhythm of life this year, and while I love writing and know that it is a necessary outlet for my sanity, I know that I need to develop a better schedule and rhythm (and read some of Jen's suggested books so I can work more efficiently!). It never fails that the moment I sit down to write is the moment when a little voice explodes in the background (and better the little voice than the little diaper).

I do hope to expand the writing, and to that end have been doing more planning than writing as of late. Hopefully that planning will result in more regular and fruitful writing/posting. At this point, I'm still kind of battling the winter blahs and a teeny bug so the only thing that sounds really appealing is a warm blanket and mindless activity. Unfortunately, work, home and children do not appreciate my less active desires.

I've missed posting my What I Wore Sunday posts linking up with the ladies at Fine Linen & Purple over the last several weeks. To get caught up, here are three outfits in one post with two homily highlights as food for thought. Hoping this new rhythm kicks in soon and there are more regular posts and features for the coming months...

I'm not sure where I will pose once we take our Christmas tree down! Now on to deeper matters of faith...

1st Homily Tidbit: From Epiphany, Fr. Patrick was talking about the wise men, the three kings, and how they came upon instruction of Herod to find the Christ child. Their plan was then to return to Herod, but after encountering the Christ Child, their plans were changed by God's design. They did not return to Herod. They changed their plans upon an encounter with the Lord. How does that saying go? We plan and God laughs? How many times does God redirect our steps in accordance with His will for a much better outcome, and how often do we stubbornly hold on to our plan perhaps at our own peril, or at the very least, not realizing the greater blessing that lies in God's direction for us? Great thought for the coming year - less of me, more of Him.

2nd Homily Tidbit: Last weekend, Fr. Ben was preaching on the Baptism of the Lord and keyed in on a verse that always touches my heart as well. "This is my beloved Son with whom I am well pleased." How often do we long to hear those words, or, how hard it is to believe that about ourselves as daughters of God? Fr. Ben's point, though, was that this longing exists in the human heart, and for those of us who are parents, it is so important to speak those words to our children. You are my beloved. I am proud of you. I am well pleased with you...even if I wasn't ten minutes ago when you got on mommy's last nerve. I love you for no reason other than you are - you exist and that is enough for me. Even when you do not choose wisely, I love you. I will help you to make decisions that we can both be proud of and that God will rejoice in as well. So much better than, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? AGAIN???" which is what mostly escapes my lips these days. More work for the year - let our mouths proclaim blessings and glorify God in all things and lead our children to understand their belovedness even in the midst of correction. Whew! That was a mouthful!

That's it for now. Visit Fine Linen and Purple to see what everyone else was wearing, along with a challenge for the coming week(s)!

  1. Wow, that yellow top really is the perfect color for you! It makes the photo zing!

    1. Thanks, Anna! I'm trying to be braver with bold (and trendy) colors. :) The days of black, grey and brown are starting to be farther behind me now.

  2. Outfit #2 is my fave - I think that's the best I've ever seen you look!!! Perfect silhouette, hair looks fab, love the glasses, and the mustard is a great color on you!

    1. Well, you're gonna make me blush! To think I almost didn't get the shirt because I was afraid the mustard would be garish. :) Thanks so much, Rosie!
